Everything you need for the Ralph Lauren Christmas trend

The Christmas decor trend that seems to be taking over TikTok this year isn't overly glam or minimalist Scandi -- it's the timeless, chic inspiration of Ralph Lauren.

This year, millions of holiday decorators are gravitating toward more nostalgic and timeless design that is grounded in equestrian heritage and a classic American feel.

Known for its deep colors, polished metals, vintage sporting lodge references, and old-world coziness, the look and style of this decor gives the feel of a traditional holiday inside a historic stable or countryside manor.

According to Jenny Reimold, HomeGoods Featured Finder and an interior expert, the trend is spiking online because it "feels nostalgic and elevated at the same time."

And while social media might make the style look expensive, Reimold said it's shockingly easy and affordable to recreate at home, especially if you know what to look for.

Where did this Christmas decor trend originate?

According to Reimold, the viral holiday look stems from classic American design rooted in equestrian heritage. Instead of leaning into glossy, modern decor, creators on TikTok are returning to the aesthetic of historic stables, old sporting lodges and countryside estates -- settings often associated with Ralph Lauren's early brand imagery.

An ode to Americana, heritage sports and aspirational luxury, TikTok creators are reinterpreting those influences through thrifted finds and affordable pieces from retailers like HomeGoods.

Why the trend is dominating on TikTok

The Ralph Lauren Christmas aesthetic hits a cultural sweet spot. As Reimold shared, consumers are craving nostalgia and luxury without a high cost.

From $5 plaid wrapping paper to heirloom-looking brass ornaments, Reimold says the magic is in mixing smart, affordable finds with thoughtful styling.

"It's elevated without being exclusive," she said. "That's why it's resonating."

How to decorate in the viral Ralph Lauren Christmas style

According to Reimold, the key to this aesthetic is restraint paired with richness -- intentional patterns, timeless materials and storytelling pieces.

1. Start with one plaid

Choose a single pattern -- like classic red tartan or Black Watch -- and repeat it across the decor.

"The key is choosing just one pattern so everything feels intentional and tailored," Reimold said.

Reimold even wraps every gift in the same plaid paper, which she recently found at HomeGoods for only $5 a roll, instantly elevating the look under the tree.

2. Add equestrian details

Think brass horse figurines, leather accents, old riding trophies, tack, horseshoes or framed prints. Many can be wired directly onto the tree.

For example, Reimold turned brass horse candlesticks from HomeGoods into statement ornaments that look like heirlooms -- without the heirloom price tag.

3. Mix vintage with new

Pair thrifted finds (old trophies, worn books, wooden crates) with polished decor for a collected-over-time feel.

4. Keep the color palette rich

Stick to deep greens, blues, burgundy, gold and natural woods.
