In the latest batch of documents released in the Epstein files there are email exchanges between Ghislaine Maxwell and someone who signs off as "A" - whose email address is saved as the "Invisible Man," and is believed to be the former Duke of York, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.
ABC News has not confirmed that this is Mountbatten-Windsor. There are, however, strong indications that it is indeed Mountbatten-Windsor.
In one of the messages -- from August 2001 -- "A" says he is “at Balmoral Summer Camp for the Royal Family” and then asks Maxwell if she has “found me some new inappropriate friends?” Andrew was at Balmoral then, according to newspaper reports at the time.
Two days later, Maxwell replies, telling “A”: “So sorry to dissapoint [sic] you, however the truth must be told. I have only been able to find appropriate friends,” she wrote, and signed off, “Kisses. G”
Thousands of files have been released by the DOJ to fulfill the requirements of the Epstein Files Transparency Act and the latest tranche, like the others, has no context. Mountbatten-Windsor was recently stripped of his titles due to his past association with Epstein and stepped back from his royal duties in 2019.
He has not been charged with a crime and has attempted to distance himself from his accuser, Virginia Giuffre. Mountbatten-Windsor has always denied wrongdoing.
In another message apparently involving the former Prince, "A" tells Maxwell that his valet has died and that he has just left the "RN," an apparent reference to the Royal Navy. Andrew left the Royal Navy in July 2001 and, according to the Guardian, newspapers reported at the time that Andrew’s valet had died.
“You probably wouldn't know but I lost my valet on Thursday. He died in his sleep. He had been with me since I was 2,” the message from “A” to Maxwell says, “I am a little off balance as not only has my office been restructured, I have left the RN and now my whole life is in turmoil as I have no one to look after me. He was a real rock and almost a part of the family. If you have any good ideas as to how to get my mind back on track I'd be grateful for advice,” “A” wrote.
“See you real soon…I hope you are coming over,” the message concludes, and is signed “A, xxx”
In a third message made public by the DOJ on Tuesday, Maxwell forwards “A” a message from another person discussing potential activities for a trip to Peru in early 2002, which included another reference to finding girls.
“I doubt that he will find someone here, but we can try,” the Peruvian contact writes while also suggesting other activities including water-skiing and horseback riding on the beach.
“A” replies to Maxwell that “I would love to do them all but fear that there would not be enough time!
“As for girls well I leave that entirely to you “ and the Peruvian contact, “A” wrote.
Andrew made an official visit to Peru in March 2002.
ABC News asked the Palace - which has previously said they no longer represent Andrew – about the messages.
Buckingham Palace officially declined comment, but referred ABC News to the statement released at the time his titles were removed: "The King and Queen’s ‘thoughts and utmost sympathies have been, and will remain with, the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse'."
ABC has also attempted to reach a representative for the former prince.
