Brian Wilson's daughters, stars share emotional tributes to music legend

WATCH: Remembering Beach Boys founder Brian Wilson

Tributes poured in for Beach Boys singer Brian Wilson on Wednesday following his death at age 82.

The singer's family shared the news of his death on social media, saying they are "heartbroken" and "sharing our grief with the world."

Wilson's daughters, Carnie Wilson and Wendy Wilson, also shared a moving statement with "Good Morning America" and expressed their sadness over their father's death.

"We are deeply saddened to say goodbye to our hero and Daddy," their statement began. "We know how he touched so many people with his musical gifts and we are so thankful for the support from everyone that knew him and all of his fans. May he rest in peace in music. Love & Mercy"

A statement shared to the Beach Boys' official Instagram page on Wednesday, which was also shared by Beach Boys co-founder Mike Love on his Instagram story, called Wilson not only the heart of the band, but "the soul of our sound."

"The melodies he dreamed up and the emotions he poured into every note changed the course of music forever," the statement read. "His unparalleled talent and unique spirit created the soundtrack of so many lives around the globe, including our own."

Beach Boys member Al Jardine also took to Instagram to share a message for Wilson, whom he called his "friend, my classmate, my football teammate, my Beach Boy bandmate and my brother in spirit."

"I will always feel blessed that you were in our lives for as long as you were," Jardine continued. "I think the most comforting thought right now is that you are reunited with Carl and Dennis, singing those beautiful harmonies again."

He added, "You were a humble giant who always made me laugh and we will celebrate your music forever. Brian, I’ll really miss you…still I have the warmth of the sun ☀️🎶❤️"

John Stamos

John Stamos, a dear friend of Wilson who has occasionally played with the Beach Boys at concerts and live performances over the years, shared a moving tribute to Wilson on Instagram alongside several photos of the two together.

"Brian Wilson didn't just soundtrack my life…he filled it with color, with wonder, with some of the most unforgettable, emotional, joyful moments I've ever known," Stamos wrote in the caption. "It's hard to put into words what it meant to stand beside him, laugh with him, play his music with him."

He continued, "Brian wasn't just a musical genius, he was a gentle, soulful, funny, complex, beautiful man. He heard things no one else could hear. He felt things deeper than most of us ever will. And somehow, he turned all of that into music that wrapped itself around the world and made us all feel less alone."

"Rest easy, Brian. Thank you for the music. Thank you for the moments," Stamos added. "I'll carry them with me -- forever."

Nancy Sinatra

Nancy Sinatra shared a tribute for Wilson on Instagram and wrote, "His cherished music will live forever as he travels through the Universe and beyond. God bless you, sweet Brian."

She added, "One of the biggest thrills of my life was singing "California Girls" with Brian."

Sean Ono Lennon

Sean Ono Lennon, a fellow musician and the son of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, shared a post on X about how "heart broken" he is and shared how much Wilson influenced him.

"Anyone who really knows me knows how heart broken I am about Brian Wilson passing," he said. "Not many people influenced me as much as he did. I feel very lucky that I was able to meet him and spend some time with him. He was always very kind and generous. He was our American Mozart. A one of a kind genius from another world."

Mick Fleetwood

Fleetwood Mac co-founder and drummer Mick Fleetwood wrote on X, "Anyone with a musical bone in their body 🎼 must be grateful for Brian Wilson's genius magical touch!! And greatly saddened of this major worldly loss!!"

He added, "My thoughts go out to his family and friends ❤️."

Ronnie Wood

Rolling Stones member Ronnie Wood shared a post on X, writing that his world "is in mourning" following the news of Wilson's death, as well as the death of Sly and the Family Stone frontman Sly Stone earlier this week.

Keith Richards

Wood's fellow Rolling Stones member Keith Richards posted a simple tribute to Wilson on Wednesday, sharing a photo of an excerpt from his memoir "Life," in which he opens up about being impressed by Wilson's talents.

"Rest in Peace!" he wrote in the post's caption.

Micky Dolenz

Micky Dolenz of The Monkees took to X to share photos of himself with Wilson, calling Wilson a "musical and spiritual giant."

"His melodies shaped generations, & his soul resonated in every note," Dolenz added. "I was fortunate to know him; we all were blessed by his genius. Rest peacefully, Brian."

Carole King

Legendary singer-songwriter and musician Carole King wrote in a Facebook post Wednesday, "Brian Wilson was my friend and my brother in songwriting."

"We shared a similar sensibility, as evidenced by his 4 over 5 chord under 'Aaaah!' in 'Good Vibrations' and mine under 'I'm Into Something Good,'" the "Where You Lead" singer wrote. "We once discussed who used it first, and in the end we decided it didn't matter."

She added, "The world will miss Brian, but we are so lucky to have his music."

Questlove

Questlove, a member of the iconic group The Roots and a Grammy-winning drummer, producer and DJ, shared a moving post on Instagram about how the Beach Boys album "Pet Sounds" spoke to him during a particularly difficult period in his life.

"I know [Roy] Orbison is the king of emo, but man if there was a human being who made art out of inexpressible sadness….damn it was Brian Wilson," he wrote.

He added that "without him I dunno how so many that came after felt safe to express a feeling of sadness that most humans would be otherwise ridiculed/punished for."

Rob Minkoff

Filmmaker Rob Minkoff shared a tribute for Wilson on Instagram and recalled a Beach Boys performance he remembers seeing when he was younger.

"As a lifelong Beach Boys fan, the news of Brian Wilson’s passing is profoundly sad. But it reminds me of one of the most spectacular performances I’ve ever had the pleasure of seeing," he began.

He continued, "In 2002 I was driving down the freeway listening to the radio, K-Earth 101, and the DJ announced there were tickets available for the Adopt-A-Minefield charity event at the Century Plaza Hotel featuring performances by Brian Wilson and Paul McCartney!"

Minkoff added, "I couldn’t believe it. And so I pulled over, called the number, and immediately bought the $300 ticket. If you’ve never been to the venue, it’s a small room, and so seeing Brian and Paul sing God Only Knows as a duet, which Paul described as his favorite song, was a once in a lifetime moment I’ll never forget. RIP Brian Wilson. Your music will live on forever."

Elton John

Elton John also took to Instagram and shared a photo alongside a tribute to the Beach Boys singer, in which he recalled Wilson's kindness.

"Brian Wilson was always so kind to me from the day I met him," John began. "He sang ‘Someone Saved My Life Tonight’ at a tribute concert in 2003, and it was an extraordinary moment for me. I played on his solo records, he sang on my album, The Union, and even performed for my AIDS Foundation."

The "Your Song" singer continued, "I grew to love him as a person, and for me, he was the biggest influence on my songwriting ever; he was a musical genius and revolutionary. He changed the goalposts when it came to writing songs and shaped music forever. A true giant."
