Makeup has been a creative outlet for Olivia to express herself, according to her mom -- especially since she was diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS) in 2016 and with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) just one year later.

EDS is an inherited disorder that affects the connective tissues, usually resulting in overly flexible joints and stretchy, fragile skin, according to the Mayo Clinic. Many people who have EDS also have POTS, which affects the autonomic nervous system.

The ninth grader now wears a feeding tube to make sure she is getting the right nutrients to her body, Olivia's mom, Janet Cyr, said.

While Olivia was self-conscious of her feeding tube at first, she has since learned to incorporate it into her looks.

"Especially with makeup it’s all about your face," she said. "And now I have this thing that’s just there, but after a while I just learned to work around it."
