🏛️ The judge overseeing Bryan Kohberger's murder case has ruled that the death penalty will remain on the table as the case moves forward, rejecting a request from Kohberger's defense attorneys.

🌀 Two people in Washington state were killed by falling trees as a powerful storm swept through the Pacific Northwest, including a woman in Bellevue who died Tuesday night when a tree crashed into her home while she was in the shower, according to fire officials.

⚖️ The suspect accused of murdering Laken Riley on the University of Georgia campus was found guilty by a judge on all charges Wednesday, including malice murder and felony murder. He was sentenced by the judge to life in prison without the possibility of parole, the maximum possible.

👮 Susan Smith, a South Carolina woman who admitted to drowning her two children 30 years ago, was unanimously denied parole after she appeared before the board for the first time on Wednesday.

🚻 House Speaker Mike Johnson said transgender women cannot use women's restrooms in Capitol and House office buildings. This also applies to changing rooms and locker rooms, Johnson said.

💔 Liam Payne was laid to rest in a private service on Wednesday, one month after the 31-year-old singer’s unexpected death in Argentina. The service, held in the United Kingdom where Payne was born and launched his music career, was attended by his family, close friends and One Direction bandmates Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Harry Styles. Simon Cowell, former judge on The X-Factor, was also among those present.

🏆 Country music's brightest stars lit up the stage with epic performances at the 58th annual CMA Awards, where Morgan Wallen, with seven nominations, won the night's top honor, entertainer of the year. Chris Stapleton also shined, winning song of the year, single of the year for “White Horse,” and male vocalist of the year for a record eighth time. Check out the full list of winners here!
