A group of students have come up with a way to keep learning, get together and inform others during school closures: a newspaper called "Third Grade Lockdown News."
The idea came from Lucy Poree and grew to include 14 other student reporters from Glorietta Elementary School in Orinda, California.
"Lucy and I were reading a Thea Stilton Mouseford Academy book," her mother Jenny Poree told "Good Morning America." "The book is about a “Mouse Newspaper” and Lucy thought it would be a great idea to start a newspaper with her friends so they could keep in touch and work on writing while they were out of school. The name and story selections are a collaborative effort."

"Third Grade Lockdown News" has published five issues so far. Articles include "School closures get longer," "Fun facts about toilet paper," "How to avoid the boredom blues." and many more including light topics like cooking and fashion.
The newspaper's next issue will feature it's very first "advertisement" from a small business started by another group of kids in the neighborhood. "Chalk Talk with Benny + Gray" offer personalized sidewalk chalk art and messages for holidays, birthdays and graduation.
Jenny Poree said Lucy wants the kids to continue the paper even after the lockdown is over. "She thinks it helps her learn new things, become a better writer and learn from her friends."
