Football can seem very important around here, which makes days like today, where we honor all the service men and women who selflessly defend our freedom and rights, even more important. At the end of the day we play a game, and it wouldn’t be possible without the real heroes. Men and women who risk their lives in defense of others they’ve never met. To our nations Veterans, we are grateful for your discipline, your bravery, your sacrifice and your selflessness. Today and everyday... thank you.

Today as we honor those who have fought for us and their families who support them, I wanted to share this photo of a Green Beret veteran who was a paratrooper in the Army. He frequents one of my favorite coffee shops here and it got me thinking…how great would it be if we took the time to sit down with our veterans, visit and thank them for their service. And what better place than a coffee shop! Thank you to all who have served and all who are serving. God bless you. #VeteransDay @coffeeandcoconutsberryfarms

Professional skateboarder Tony Hawk shared a heartfelt tribute to his late father, who was a fighter plane pilot in the Navy. "Thanks to all the veterans that sacrifice everything for their country and family," Hawk wrote. "We wouldn't be here without you."

My dad joined the Navy when he was young because his childhood was challenging and his career options were scarce. Before long, he was flying fighter planes from aircraft carriers in WWII and moving constantly. He eventually got stationed in San Diego and was honorably discharged due to health concerns. He hustled to find work, once running a hot dog stand in Ocean Beach before starting a small musical instrument distribution company (based on my sister’s desire to be in a band, which she did with great success). He raised four overachieving kids and eventually formed the National Skateboard Association (based on my desire to skate 24/7). He was supportive beyond compare, and never made us feel guilty about his own struggles. I was lucky to have his parenting template once I became a father myself. Unfortunately, he only met one of my kids before passing away from lung cancer in 1995. This is the only picture I have of him with Riley and I cherish it. Thanks to all the veterans that sacrifice everything for their country and family; we wouldn’t be here without you.

Actor Donnie Wahlberg paid tribute to Carwood Lipton, whom he portrayed in the movie "Band of Brothers." Wahlberg wrote, "Hopefully, in some small way, my work serves as a tribute to the service that our military and women have done (and continue to do) for us."

View this post on Instagram

As an actor — who pretends to dodge fake bullets on TV and in movies, while real life military service men/women stand tall in the face of real bullets everyday — I’m not sure why I would ever deserve any “honor” or “awards” for my work. The true honor for me is being lucky enough to portray real life heroes, like 1st Lt Carwood Lipton in #BandOfBrothers, who have put their lives on the line for our freedom. That said, I was incredibly humbled to receive this acknowledgment from @variety #SaluteToService last week. Hopefully, in some small way, my work serves as a tribute to the service that our military men and women have done (and continue to do) for us. Thank you to all our #Veterans, and their families, on this #VeteransDay! Also, a #Salute to my fellow recipients — @tulsigabbard (thank you for your courageous service Tulsi) @norahodonnell @dbodbo69 @cindymccain @loudphillips @whiteslither Special thanks to @cbstv @history @variety @cbsvetnet @cbstvstudios @theuso #thankful 🙏🏼💙❤️
