Linda Cardellini is having a year of years.

She talked to ABC News about working with Christina Applegate for the first time on the series.

"We're big team players. So that was really fun and important to me going into the project," Cardellini said in a recent appearance on "Popcorn with Peter Travers." "Because if you work on a series, you work with people for a long time. And I wanted to be sure that I really enjoyed the people I worked with and she's amazing."

In the series, a widow forms an unusual relationship with a new friend.

"We jokingly call it a 'tramedy' because there's so much trauma that they go through," Cardellini, 34, told Travers. "But we both have secrets that we're keeping and major complications in our characters that make it interesting, and it sort of unravels from there. But the thing that makes it interesting is that you can't define the genre of the show or the tone of the show; it doesn't really fit in a box."

She added, "I love that there is a suspense element to it. It's not just these two females that you can interchange their lives. They're very separate, very defined characters that sort of lock in on this intimate relationship. But then it's a character story -- but it's also got a lot of plot, so that brings a lot of twists and turns. I can barely talk about it because it's a spoiler."
