"The Crown" and "The Mandalorian" tied for the top spot, garnering 24 nominations in total. They are followed by "WandaVision" with 23, "The Handmaid's Tale" and "Saturday Night Live" with 21 each, and "Ted Lasso" with 20. Other standouts included "Lovecraft Country" and "The Queen's Gambit" with 18 apiece and "Mare of Easttown" with 16.

On Monday, the Television Academy announced that the 2021 Emmys would return to a live, in-person ceremony at L.A.'s Microsoft Theatre with a limited audience of nominees and their guests. They also revealed that Cedric the Entertainer would host the show, with the comedian calling it an "enormous honor," as it's his first time doing so.

Editor's Picks

Last September, the Emmys were presented in a virtual ceremony due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, with only host Jimmy Kimmel and celebrity presenters attending live at the Staples Center. Nominees appeared remotely, some from their homes or socially distanced watch parties, and awards were delivered by people in fancy Hazmat suits.

The show on everyone's lips last year was "Schitt's Creek," which swept all the major comedy categories and won trophies for each of its four main stars and best comedy series. It was "Succession" and "Euphoria" that garnered big wins on the drama side, and "Watchmen" reigned supreme when it came to limited series.
