All aboard!

The beloved Big Thunder Mountain Railroad roller coaster is reopening May 3 at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom Park, Disney announced Wednesday.

After closing in January 2025 for a 14-month refurbishment, the "wildest ride in the wilderness" will welcome new and returning visitors with a new track and "refreshed" passenger trains at Magic Kingdom's Frontierland, Disney said.

Riders will travel through a gold mine and the new Rainbow Caverns, which feature eye-catching phosphorescent pools, as well as iridescent stalagmites and stalactites.

"The Rainbow Caverns certainly are beautiful… but they ain't as friendly as they first appear," a post on the Disney Parks Blog states. "In fact, that menacing rumble from deep within the mountain may be a sign that we ain't welcome."

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is also getting an adjusted height requirement after refurbishment: Now, riders 38 inches (97 centimeters) and taller will be able to enjoy the ride.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is one of five thrill rides for kids and adults at Magic Kingdom and one of two featuring small drops.

The park opened its newest thrill ride, Tiana's Bayou Adventure, inspired by Disney's 2009 animated film "The Princess and the Frog," in June 2024.

The Walt Disney Company is the parent company of ABC News and "Good Morning America."
