The Pantone Color Institute has officially unveiled its 2026 Color of the Year.
The Color Institute, a consulting service within Pantone, a design and printing company, named PANTONE 11-4201 Cloud Dancer -- a shade of white -- as next year's Color of the Year in a press release on Thursday, calling the color "a symbol of calming influence in a frenetic society rediscovering the value of measured consideration and quiet reflection."
The institute noted the simple color selection denoted an "aspiration for a future free from excess."
"At this time of transformation, when we are reimagining our future and our place in the world, PANTONE 11-4201 Cloud Dancer is a discrete white hue offering a promise of clarity," Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, said in a statement included in the press release.
"The cacophony that surrounds us has become overwhelming, making it harder to hear the voices of our inner selves. A conscious statement of simplification, Cloud Dancer enhances our focus, providing release from the distraction of external influences."
The institute shared that in celebration of the selection, it would be working with artists from design fields in a new initiative as "part of a broader exploration of commissioning art and celebrating creativity."
Emiliano Ponzi, an illustrator, visual artist and author, will be the first artist working with the organization on the project, creating a "limited-edition tote bag that showcases Cloud Dancer through his distinctive visual language, which combines conceptual depth with graphic precision."
The bag will be available at Pantone.com.
As part of the announcement, Pantone also shared several different applications of PANTONE 11-4201 in areas such as beauty, fashion, home decor and multimedia design.
The institute previously selected PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse as its 2025 Color of the Year, "a warming, brown hue imbued with richness." PANTONE 13-1023 Peach Fuzz and PANTONE 18-1750 Viva Magenta were named Pantone's 2024 and 2023 Color of the Year, respectively.
The Pantone Color Institute spends the year analyzing trends across fashion, current events, technology and more to identify the shades that are shaping society before ultimately deciding on each new Color of the Year.
