Man caught on camera saving 2 toddlers on Florida highway

WATCH: Bystander rescues two toddlers from busy street

A man jumped into action and saved two toddlers on a busy Florida highway in an incident caught on camera.

In video footage shared to Facebook on Sunday by Drone Geox LLC, a drone business based in Merritt Island, Florida, John Brittingham can be seen running along Route A1A toward two young girls in the middle of the road, as a white car approaches them.

Brittingham then can be seen gesturing to stop oncoming traffic with one arm as he hurries toward the two children, picks them up one by one and carries them to a nearby sidewalk.

Brittingham, a father of five and grandfather of one, told ABC News he was driving southbound on A1A when he spotted the kids and got out of his car to help.

"I was terrified. If anything would've happened to them, my whole life would have been ruined," Brittingham said.

Afterward, Brittingham said he went to look for the kids' family, who were staying in a nearby rental home where the backyard gate was open.

Brittingham said the family told him they hadn't realized the toddlers had gone missing from the backyard.

No one was hurt in the incident, according to Brittingham.

When reached by ABC News, Cocoa Beach Police Department said the department was not contacted about this incident.

ABC News has reached out to Brevard County Sheriff's Office and Florida Highway Patrol for comment on the incident.
