When it comes to setting goals and getting a fresh start, September has become the new January for many people.
The days after Labor Day, with students back in school and summer vacations over, have become a time to establish new routines and set resolutions to finish the year strong.
The "Good Morning America" family is among the many families across the United States getting a fresh start in September.
On "GMA" this week, Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos, Michael Strahan, Lara Spencer, Ginger Zee and Sam Champion are each sharing the personal goals they've set for themselves for the rest of the year.
Peloton instructor and "GMA" contributor Robin Arzon is joining them to share tips for how to set achievable goals and make change happen.
A first step, according to Arzon, is to ask yourself the why and how behind the goal you set for yourself.
Robin Arzon talks new self-help journeyShe shared three questions people can ask themselves as they set their goal or goals for a fresh start in September.
1. Why do I want to achieve this goal?
2. How will I stay accountable to my goal?
3. What is the first step I'll take to reach my goal?
The questions can be answered in a set of three simple statements shared by Arzon HERE.
Read below for the "GMA" family's goals and Arzon's tips to help achieve them.
Robin's tip: Trade perfection for curiosity by adding "yet" to your self-talk. When you catch yourself saying "I can't," add the word "yet." That one word shifts your mindset from limitation to possibility.
Robin's tip: Incorporate new workout moves to keep yourself motivated.
Robin's tip: Break your PR goal into small progressions, like adding two to five pounds each week or dialing in one extra rep. Pair that with tracking your lifts so you can actually see the climb. Also, repeat workouts and the lift every week for four to six weeks.
Robin's tip: Build a personal accountability strategy, so ask a meditation teacher or a friend who also prioritizes meditation to help hold you accountable.
Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos to join Michael Strahan with Hollywood Walk of Fame starsRobin's tip: Schedule your volunteer work, so pick one day a month and put it on the calendar as a non-negotiable family appointment. And let each family member take turns picking the project, which builds excitement, ownership and keeps the experience fresh.
Robin's tip: Track your evenings for one week and write down exactly how you spend your free time. Look for your "default zones," i.e. the hours spent scrolling or doing things on autopilot. Replace just half of that downtime with intentional plans such as dinner with a friend, a class or self-care.
