Holiday season is upon us, and so is the time for creative sweet treats to keep the celebration going.
Leading the charge on innovative holiday dishes is the now-viral hot cocoa dip that's taking the internet by storm as an intriguing way to bring the delicious taste of hot cocoa to a dessert dip -- one perfect for snacking on with holiday cookies.
"Good Morning America" lifestyle contributor Lori Bergamotto joined the show on Friday morning to walk through how to make the sweet, creamy dish.
Read on below for ingredients and directions to make your very own hot cocoa dip.
Ingredients
8-ounce package cream cheese
3 to 4 packets of hot cocoa mix
8 ounces thawed whipped topping
Optional: Marshmallows, sprinkles, chocolate shavings and other toppings of your choice
Directions
1. Beat the cream cheese: In a large mixing bowl, use an electric mixer to beat 8 ounces of softened cream cheese until it is smooth and creamy.
2. Add hot cocoa mix: Beat in 3-4 packets of hot cocoa mix (around 1/3 to 1/2 cup) until well combined.
3. Fold in whipped topping: Gently fold in about 4 to 8 ounces of thawed whipped topping (like Cool Whip) using a rubber spatula, being careful not to deflate the mixture.
4. Chill and serve: Transfer the dip to a serving bowl and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
5. Garnish: Top with mini marshmallows, sprinkles or chocolate shavings right before serving.
