Although birthday celebrations look a little different during the pandemic, this is one genius hack that seems smart to reduce the spread of germs on any special occasion.
Krystal Ward shared a video on TikTok of how she re-configured the way candles are affixed to a birthday cake in the time of COVID.

"We were laughing about how gross spit on cake is and how it’s even grosser now that COVID and germs are more prevalent in our minds," Ward told "Good Morning America." "So we left the lid on and were like, 'let’s see if this works!'"
Ward simply dripped a small bit of wax to get the candles to stick to the plastic dome covering on the cake, protecting the confection from contamination.
"It worked amazing -- granted candles were still blown out, so germs [may have been] in the air, but we were no longer ingesting them," she said, adding that there was an added bonus, too: "No wax on the cake!"
Ward's video has racked up nearly 30K views and counting as of the time of publication.
