Subway launches new value menu with 15 options under $5

WATCH: McDonald's value menu kicks off fast-food price wars

Subway has launched a new value menu with more than 15 entrees under $5, offering more protein-forward meals at a time when cost-conscious customers are craving ways to get the most bang for their buck.

The continued sticker shock on food prices both in-restaurant and at the grocery store has pushed fast food chains to debut menu options aimed at helping customers save. Subway is the latest quick service restaurant to jump on that trend, announcing a new Fresh Value Menu that is available nationwide starting Tuesday.

According to Subway, most of the items on the new menu have upwards of 20 grams of protein.

The three-part value menu has a new Deli Faves collection with four classic and fully customizable 6-inch sandwiches that start at $3.99. Deli Faves include the BLT, Cold Cut Combo, a new Spicy Pepperoni, and Ham and Salami.

Protein Pockets are also on the menu at $3.99 each for a grab-and-go option that has over 20 grams of protein wrapped into a soft tortilla.

Protein Pocket options include Baja Chicken, Peppercorn Ranch Chicken, Italian Trio, and Turkey Ham.

The Sub of the Day option, starting at $4.99, rounds out the new value menu with a different 6-inch sub for every day of the week. Plus, for just $2 more, customers can add chips and a drink.

The selections from Monday through Sunday include Meatball Marinara, Classic Tuna, Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki, Oven-Roasted Turkey, Black Forest Ham, Italian B.M.T. and Spicy Italian.

"Subway's Fresh Value Menu proves you don't have to choose between eating well and saving money," Subway North American CMO Dave Skena said in a statement. "Your wallet and stomach deserve freshly-baked bread, real protein and the perfect combination of sauces and hand-chopped veggies -- all for under $5."
