For anyone looking to cut costs on Thanksgiving dinner or other holiday groceries, there are apps to help track store circulars and find digital coupons and other savings.
Target, Walmart, Aldi, Lidl and more retailers have rolled out various value holiday meal essentials offering some of the lowest seasonal prices in history. But for shoppers still looking to save beyond those discounts, there are some AI tools and apps, tested by ABC News consumer correspondent Becky Worley, that can help shoppers organize lists, clip coupons and ultimately navigate product availability at the lowest prices.
The apps include Grocery Pal, Basket, Boxed and Flipp, which all have an array of features and use AI to do the heavy lifting on the back end.
Flipp users, for example, can search circular ads and digital coupons for stores in the local area.
A list of 20 items from Worley's regular go-to local grocery store would have cost $113.63, while the same items using Flipp, purchased at four different stores, came to a grand total of $50.12.
The caveat? It took her nearly 30 minutes to search for all the items and would mean multiple trips to four different locations, ultimately taking more time.
Still, some big ticket items worth prioritizing included significant savings on turkey, at 39 cents a pound compared to $1.99 per pound, which alone accounts for $19 in savings.
