Hilary Duff is known for her roles on shows like "Lizzie McGuire" and "How I Met Your Father," but at home, she's known best as mom.
Duff is a mom of four children. She gave birth to her fourth child, a daughter named Townes Meadow Bair, on May 3, 2024.
"We all love you like you've been here all along beauty," Duff wrote on Instagram at the time, alongside photos of Townes.
Duff and her husband Matthew Koma also share two older daughters, Banks Violet Bair and Mae James Bair.
On Father's Day in June, Duff paid tribute to Koma, captioning a series of photos of him on Instagram, "Bub- you do it so well - you endlessly go for us - say yes to us- protect us- never miss a moment big or small- you handle being screamed at and chosen last so well."
"You're the only one that could handle us," she continued, in part. "We love you the biggest and the most."
Duff also shares son Luca with her ex-husband Mike Comrie.
Duff has described motherhood as both "hard" and "endlessly rewarding."
"I just love watching my kids form into their own individual unique selves," she told Shape magazine in June 2023. "I love my loud household with mayhem and the craziness and all the love and all the dirt. I love [parenting] with my husband."
"I love feeling like hugs and cuddles can make everything better," she continued. "I love the pressure of being like, 'How the f--- are we going to make it through this day?' And making it through the day and being like, 'I don't know how everyone is tucked in and fed and happy after all the things we've had to do today.'"
Luca Cruz Comrie was born March 20, 2012.
In March, Duff took to Instagram to wish Luca a happy 12th birthday, writing, "Happy 12 ✨ my golden joy!!!! 😘😘😘😘😘😘😘."
Duff has spoken publicly about her pride in having a successful co-parenting relationship for Luca with Comrie, whom she divorced in 2016.
"We are a unit and we're going to be a unit for the rest of our lives," she said in a 2020 interview with People. "We realized [as a couple] we weren't where we used to be, but I feel so lucky this happened when Luca was young because this is his normal now."
In an interview with PureWow that same year, Duff shared that Luca seamlessly stepped into the big brother role after her second child was born.
"He came in after I had her. I was just holding her, and the look on his face was an absolute shock. He just said, 'That's my sister!,'" she recalled, adding of their bond, "It's really sweet the way he looks out for her."
While celebrating his 10th birthday, Duff called Luca "the greatest kid around."
"Luca Cruz what a gift you are to all that know you. I can't imagine how it's already been 10 years since I got to first hold you in my arms and meet your big blue eyes," she wrote on Instagram. "This time with you has been something I can't even explain. It's my pleasure to watch you grow. To know your heart and be loved by you. You are magic and I can't wait to see all the cool things you do and will teach me over the next 10 years."
Duff's second child Banks, whom she welcomed with Koma, was born Oct. 25, 2018.
The actress announced Banks' arrival on Instagram by posting an adorable photo of the couple cradling their newborn with loving smiles.
"This little bit has fully stolen our hearts," Duff wrote in her post. "She joined our world at home on Thursday afternoon and is absolute magic."
Honoring Banks' fifth birthday in 2023, Duff paid sweet tribute to her on Instagram, calling Banks "the sweet/spice/dancing butterfly of our family!"
"5 years of memories with you are burned on my heart and soul forever and begging for more!" she wrote in the caption. "You are all the top ingredients! Whimsical, yet practical. Smart-clever-cautious, yet free! Thanks for being ours and for being weird and princessy all in one glorious package!!! Gosh I love you so much!"
To mark Banks' 6th birthday in October 2024, Duff posted a fun video of Banks doing a backflip on Instagram, with a lengthy note in the caption, detailing her character and calling her "my sweets loving-intergalactic-mega spark plug-dancing-sassy attitude-good natured-rule following and sometimes boundary pushing queen."
"I'm writing this in hopes you read it one day because time is fleeting and our life is so packed full and feels like someone is pressing fast forward on a big remote I don't have control of," she wrote at the time. "The things you say or do might only last and week and then it's on to the the next just like that…I tell you every day how special your mind and heart are and you kiss me and fall into my lap and hold my face and look at me like I hung the moon but you hung my moon angel."
"You made mommy and daddy our family and we can't believe YOU were the little skittle that turned us into a family so big and bold and beautiful," she continued. "You showed us what we were made of and started the memories that we rely on and hold so close to our hearts. You're cool and good and smart and wise and beautiful. Like beautiful beyond belief."
She added, "I love you Banks. I'm here and learning and so lucky for my front row seat to your show ✌️mommy will sit and marvel forever wherever your path goes🌌Happy 6 🐻 Bair."
Duff announced Mae's arrival on Instagram following her birth on March 24, 2021.
The actress shared a photo of the entire family soaking in the sight of the newborn, with Duff and Banks sitting in an inflatable pool while Koma and Luca stood outside looking proudly on.
She also shared a photo of her "birthing dream team," which included Koma and Molly Bernard, her "Younger" co-star, via Instagram Stories.
In March 2023, Duff marked Mae's 2nd birthday with a carousel of images featuring her youngest daughter on Instagram, calling her "bold, confident and funny."
"You are quick to pick up anything and a clever little one. You smell like fresas and shake your booty through most of the day. Your circle of friends might be bigger than mine and in the last month you've turned into a real chatty Cathy doll 😂We love you major little bit."
Townes Meadow Bair was born May 3, 2024.
"Now we know why she made us wait so long…She was perfecting those Cheeks!" Duff captioned a series of photos of Townes shared on Instagram. "I Have been dreaming of holding you in my arms for months and the past 5 days of getting to know you, stare at you and smell you has been pure moments of magic."
