'Go build a snowman' superintendent says in heartwarming snow day announcement

A West Virginia superintendent's viral snow day announcement is touching hearts across the country.

In a letter to parents, Dr. Bondy Shay Gibson said Jefferson County Schools would be completely closed Dec. 16 -- virtual learning included -- as a nor'easter nears the eastern U.S.

In her note, shared 52,000 times on Facebook, Gibson demanded a day of fun amid a stressful year of "seemingly endless loss."

"For just a moment, we can all let go of the worry of making up for the many things we missed by making sure this is one thing our kids won't lose this year," Gibson wrote.

"So please, enjoy a day of sledding and hot chocolate and cozy fires," she added.

Gibson's note also urged parents to snap pictures of their kids wearing snow hats and suggest they "go build a snowman."
