Brenda Song is passing on a cherished childhood tradition to her own family.
In a recent interview with E! News, the actress opened up about how she and husband Macaulay Culkin celebrate Mother’s Day with their sons, Dakota, 3, and Carson, 2, continuing a tradition she started with her own mom.
Macaulay Culkin, Brenda Song open up about their love story, family life“My mom loves gardens and gardening,” Song told the outlet. “So we always find a botanical garden somewhere in LA, or we go to the same one.”
Now, the tradition includes their children and “generational moms,” like Culkin’s mother, Patricia Brentrup.
“It's just about spending time with your loved ones,” Song said. “That's what's really special about it.”
Song noted that the tradition felt even more special when her grandmother could join in, explaining, “We’ve kind of kept it in the family. It’s really small, but it’s really meaningful to us.”
Beyond their annual family outing, the mom of two shared that she's embraced a daily routine that helps her stay present with her growing toddlers.
“I lean on DoorDash way too much,” she joked. “Especially in the day and age where I'm trying to juggle being a mom and also working and finding the time.”
And for Song, that time is priceless.
“I'm enjoying every minute,” she continued. “No matter how much time you spend with your kids, it'll never be enough.”
The actress said she’s happy to “cut corners everywhere else” in life to soak up each fleeting moment of her sons’ childhoods, even if it means losing sleep or rushing through her to-do list.
“I feel like every week it's a new milestone,” she added. “They're into something one week, the next, they’re into something else. Seeing both my kids playing soccer, I'm just like, ‘I remember when you were in my belly.’”
Song and Culkin welcomed their first son, Dakota, in April 2021 and got engaged less than a year later. They welcomed their second son, Carson, in December 2022.
