'Wicked' stars Ariana Grande, Jonathan Bailey to reunite for Sondheim musical revival

WATCH: Best of Ariana Grande

Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey are joining forces once again.

Following their roles as Glinda and Fiyero, respectively, in Jon M. Chu's "Wicked" films, the duo will reunite for the revival of the Stephen Sondheim musical "Sunday in the Park with George" in London.

The Barbican Centre in London confirmed the news on their website, saying that Grande and Bailey will star in the new stage production, which will arrive in summer 2027.

"Sunday in the Park," which Sondheim wrote the music and lyrics for, is based on a book by James Lapine, inspired by Georges Seurat's painting, "A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte."

Grande and Bailey first seemingly announced the news on Wednesday in a joint Instagram post with both of them sitting in front of the painting.

Bailey captioned the post, "All it has to be is good."

The duo later reposted a poster from the musical's new official Instagram page.

The musical blends past and present while exploring the challenges in understanding life and art, according to Music Theatre International.

It follows a fictionalized version of Sirat, who immerses himself in painting "A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte," while also struggling to maintain his relationship with his lover, Dot. It also follows George's great-grandson (also named George and an artist), who is in search of which artistic path to follow.

The main characters in the musical, George and Dot, were originally played by Mandy Patinkin and Bernadette Peters in the 1984 Broadway production of the show.

The upcoming production will be directed by Marianne Elliot with design by Tom Scutt.

Tickets go on sale in May 2026 and will only be sold via the official Barbican website and box office.
