What to watch this Christmas? Blockbusters, star-studded pictures and more

WATCH: Best movies and streaming shows for the holiday season

As blockbusters and award contenders hit the big screen, big-name shows air on the small screen and sporting events take center stage, the holiday season presents the perfect time to kick back, relax and enjoy the best entertainment has to offer this year.

ABC News' Chris Connelly shared some of the movies, shows and events to tap into this holiday season in a "Good Morning America" segment which aired on Wednesday morning.

Read on below for some of the year's top holiday viewing suggestions:

'Avatar: Fire and Ash'

The third installment of James Cameron's "Avatar" franchise, "Avatar: Fire and Ash" came out Dec. 19, starring franchise regulars Zoe Saldaña, Sam Worthington and more and details the struggle for peace on Pandora.

'Hamnet'

"Hamnet," starring Paul Mescal as William Shakespeare and Jessie Buckley as Agnes Shakespeare, is in theaters now and tells the story of Shakespeare's inspiration behind writing "Hamlet."

Out Christmas Day:

'Marty Supreme'

Starring Timothée Chalamet in one of the most highly anticipated movies of the year, "Marty Supreme" tells the story of table tennis legend Marty Mauser in 1950's New York City. The film also stars Gwyneth Paltrow as an actress making a comeback who crosses paths with Mauser.

'Anaconda'

"Anaconda" stars Paul Rudd and Jack Black in a follow up, remake of sorts, of the classic 1997 movie by the same name. The film follows a group of friends on a mission to remake the 1997 film.

'Song Sung Blue'

Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson star as bandmates in a Neil Diamond tribute band in this musical drama directed by "Footloose" (2011) director Craig Brewer. "Based on a true story, two down-on-their-luck musicians (Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson) form a joyous Neil Diamond tribute band, proving it's never too late to find love and follow your dreams," a synopsis for the film reads.

'The Testament of Ann Lee'

Directed by Mona Fastvold, and starring Amanda Seyfried and Lewis Pullman, the film features the story of Seyfried as Ann Lee, the founder of the religious movement known as the Shakers.

'Stranger Things'

Explore the Upside Down as three new episodes of "Stranger Things" drop Christmas Day before the grand finale of the show hits the small screen on New Year's Eve.

NFL Football

Three NFL matchups are slated for Christmas as the Cowboys take on the Commanders, the Lions face the Vikings and the Broncos play the Chiefs.

Connelly also highlighted the film "Father Mother Sister Brother" dropping on Christmas Eve and starring Adam Driver, and other shows to catch up on such as "With Love, Megan: Holiday Celebration" and a slate of Christmas options on Disney+.
