Teyana Taylor is on cloud nine after her Golden Globes win Sunday night.
Taylor took home the Golden Globe for best performance by an actress in a supporting role in any motion picture for her role in Paul Thomas Anderson's "One Battle After Another," delivering an emotional acceptance speech in which she mentioned her kids and more.
"Oh my babies, my babies are upstairs watching," she said tearfully onstage before telling them, "Y'all better be off them damn phones and watching me right now!"
Her reaction was met with laughter from the audience, which included her "One Battle After Another" co-stars Sean Penn and Leonardo DiCaprio.
Taylor went on and thanked God, as well as the Golden Globes voters "for seeing me and reminding me that purpose always finds its moment."
She also thanked her "tribe" and her mom and dad -- former model Nikki Taylor and Tito Smith -- saying, "To my mommy and my daddy, it's up for y'all anytime. I love y'all so much, thank you for being here with me tonight."
The actress ended her speech with a powerful message to her "brown sisters and little brown girls watching."
"Our softness is not a liability, our depth is not too much," she said. "Our light does not need permission to shine. We belong in every room we walk into, our voices matter, and our dreams deserve space. Thank you so much, everybody."
Following her win, we're looking back at Taylor's journey and the family who has supported her from the very beginning.
Here's a closer look at the support system behind her success.
Taylor is a mom to two daughters, whom she shares with ex-husband Iman Shumpert.
Taylor and Shumpert went their separate ways in 2023 after seven years of marriage. Their divorce was finalized in 2024.
Taylor welcomed her first daughter, Iman "Junie" Tayla Shumpert Jr., in a home birth in December 2015, according to E! News.
Taylor celebrated Junie's 10th birthday in December with an Instagram post.
"DOUBLE DIGITS???? This is tewwwwww muchhhhhh 😩🥺," she wrote at the time. "Ten years ago, on a bathroom floor… The world went quiet when you arrived, and in that stillness, everything changed."
She continued, "Watching you grow has been one of the greatest honors of my life. You carry gentleness and bravery in the same breath. You move through the world with curiosity, kindness, and a light that feels entirely your own. Every single year, I thank Father God, in the name of Jesus, for trusting me with a love this precious…with you."
Junie is already following her mom's footsteps into the spotlight. The duo have a clothing collection together called JuJu Beez Clothing, and the brand has collaborated with Kids Foot Locker, with Junie herself featured in the ad campaign.
"Sooooo proud of my baby girllllllllllll 🥹❤️🌹😍 My favorite lil fashionista," Taylor wrote in an Instagram post promoting the collaboration in February 2024.
Taylor welcomed her youngest daughter Rue Rose in September 2020. Like her sister, Rue was also born at home.
Shumpert took to Instagram at the time to announce the arrival of his and Taylor's second daughter, writing, "At 3:28 am on Sept 6th 2020 Rue Rose 🌹 decided that the baby shower thrown for her and mommy was too lit. She didn't make the party but she managed to make the next day her birthdate!!"
Taylor reposted Shumpert's post at the time, adding in her caption, "We love you Rue."
For Rue's 5th birthday, Taylor shared an Instagram post with photos of her younger daughter, writing in the caption, "The sweetest honor of my life is being your mommy 🥹. Thank you for filling my world with the sweetest love."
She added, "My heart will always sway to the soft rhythm of your little drums. 😍 I love you more than words can ever say."
In an August 2025 interview with InStyle, Taylor said that after Rue's birth, her priorities began to shift.
"My grind is different, my hustle is different," she said at the time. "Like, I'm not playing with y'all, my tolerance is different, what I'm willing to take and what I'm not willing to take -- you get what I'm saying?"
She added, "Motherhood is what made me start to pour more into the other things that I love to do and also to help other people."
Ahead of the Golden Globes, Taylor brought her daughters to the Palm Springs International Film Festival, where she was honored with the Creative Impact Award for her performance in "One Battle After Another."
While speaking to Entertainment Tonight at the event, Taylor said her daughters are her "two biggest fashion critics and also my co-stylists."
"I don't leave out the house without their permission," she said at the time. "They say, 'OK girl. All right.'"
Taylor's journey to stardom began the moment she was born to mom Nikki Taylor and dad Smith.
While her dad stayed out of the spotlight, Taylor's mom has helped shape her career as an actress, model, dancer, choreographer and singer-songwriter over the years.
In a June 2020 interview with i-D Magazine, she shared how her mom's taste in music inspired her.
"My mom would play all these records, the greatest hits of the '90s, '80s and '70s," she said. "And while the kids would play, I would literally have my ear against the wall just singing all the songs."
Many who have followed Taylor's career remember seeing her mom on her episode of "My Super Sweet 16," in 2007. The event was attended by Pharrell Williams and more.
Taylor reflected on the party in a September MTV interview with her "One Battle After Another" co-star Chase Infiniti and said her daughters have also seen the episode.
During her Golden Globes acceptance speech, Taylor shouted out several people from the film and Warner Bros. who have lifted her up during her "One Battle After Another" journey.
On Instagram, many of her Hollywood peers congratulated her, including Kerry Washington, Halle Bailey, Toni Braxton, Latto, Ayesha Curry, Lala Kent, Nene Leakes, Kelly Rowland, Winnie Harlow, Busta Rhymes and more.
"Sooooo completely deserved. Congrats Mama!!!! Xo," Washington commented on Taylor's Golden Globes photo.
"Big Energy" artist Latto added, "I called it!!! God don't play bout you!!!"
During her Golden Globes acceptance speech, Taylor called her loved ones and friends her "grounding force, my joy, my daily reminder that love is an action, not just a word. And everything I do is rooted in that truth."
