Sterling K. Brown talks new season of 'Paradise': What to know as season 2 debuts

WATCH: Sterling K. Brown talks season 2 of 'Paradise'

Sterling K. Brown is opening up about the new season of "Paradise," the science fiction thriller he stars in alongside James Marsden, which premiered on Hulu on Monday.

Brown joined "Good Morning America" to break down the second season of the show with co-anchor George Stephanopoulos on Monday morning.

Brown said the show, which focuses on an investigation into a president's killing in a post-apocalyptic reality, picks up by examining "the outside world."

"We're going into the outside world. We're gonna see how people who didn't have resources and planning dealt with the catastrophe that hit the globe," Brown, who plays fictional Secret Service agent Xavier Collins, told Stephanopoulos. "It sort of brings out the best of humanity, and it brings out the worst of humanity."

Brown said in the second season, his character attempts to find his wife Teri, played by actress Enuka Okuma.

"Is she alive? Is she not?" he posed. "Will they be reunited? That's sorta the driving force of season 2."

Brown also hinted, "There's a larger thing at play that people won't anticipate and hopefully will give a nice little engine that leads into season 3."

Read on for everything to know about the second season of "Paradise."

What is 'Paradise' about?

"Paradise," starring Brown, Marsden, Sarah Shahi, and Julianne Nicholson, is a science fiction thriller that follows Secret Service agent Xavier Collins (Brown), who seeks to understand who killed the fictional president of the United States in the wake of a doomsday event.

The synopsis for season 2 reads, "Xavier searches for Teri out in the world and learns how people survived the three years since The Day. Back in Paradise, the social fabric frays as the bunker deals with the aftermath of Season 1, and new secrets are uncovered about the city's origins."

Nicholson stars in the series as businesswoman Samantha "Sinatra" Redmond, while Shahi plays psychotherapist and grief specialist Gabriela Torabi and Marsden plays U.S. President Cal Bradford.

How to watch 'Paradise' season 2

Like the first season of "Paradise," the second season is now available to stream on Hulu, with the first three episodes released Monday.

New episodes will be released each following Monday. The season will feature eight total episodes.

Who is joining the cast in season 2?

Joining the "Paradise" season 2 cast are actors Shailene Woodley and Thomas Doherty.

"Shailene is not just an incredible actor, she's also a dear, dear friend, and what she does this year on the show is phenomenal," Brown told "GMA" on Monday. "As is Thomas -- and also, speaking for the young ladies, yeah, he's single."

Speaking of Doherty, he added, "But he probably won't be [single] before the show is over."

Disney is the parent company of Hulu, ABC News and "Good Morning America."
