"Real Housewives of Potomac" star Wendy Osefo is no longer employed at Wesleyan University following her arrest on fraud charges last week.
The university, based in Middletown, Connecticut, confirmed the news to "Good Morning America" in a statement Tuesday.
The Wesleyan University website lists Osefo as a "Distinguished Visiting Professor of Sociology" teaching a course called The Sociology of Reality TV.
A rep for Osefo responded to the news and said that the reality star "made the voluntary decision to step down from her role."
"Contrary to recent media reports, Dr. Wendy Osefo was not terminated from a faculty position at Wesleyan University," the statement said. "She formally submitted her letter of resignation prior to any public announcement made by the university."
The statement continued, "This decision was made independently and communicated directly to the university before any external reports surfaced."
Osefo previously served as a professor at Johns Hopkins University.
Osefo and her husband Edward Osefo were both arrested Oct. 9, according to the Carroll County Sheriff's Office in Maryland.
They were taken into custody and charged with "multiple fraud charges" after allegedly lying to police in April about having property stolen from their home during a vacation.
The couple posted bond and were released Friday, the sheriff's office said.
According to The Wesleyan Argus, the Wesleyan student newspaper, Wendy Osefo joined the university in fall 2024 and was teaching a class this semester called "The Sociology of TV: Race, Colorism, and Xenophobia."
The Wesleyan Argus reported that she was in class on Oct. 8, the day before her arrest.
Osefo, who has starred on "RHOP" for five seasons, is slated to appear in a new Bravo crossover show, "Wife Swap: The Real Housewives Edition."
The show was scheduled to debut on Oct. 14, but has since been delayed to Oct. 21.
