'Real Housewives' alum Kara Keough Bosworth announces she welcomed a son

WATCH: Expectant moms share concerns over giving birth amid the coronavirus

"Real Housewives of Orange County" alum Kara Keough Bosworth welcomed a son, Vaughn Mack Bosworth, with her husband Kyle Bosworth last month.

In a post shared over the weekend featuring several photos of Vaughn, Bosworth revealed she gave birth on March 31 and her son weighed 7 pounds, 6 ounces at birth.

She noted on social media that Vaughn's birthdate fell "6 days before what should have been his big brother’s 1st birthday."

Bosworth and her husband's older son, McCoy Casey Bosworth, died on April 12, 2020 -- six days after he was born -- after he experienced shoulder dystocia and a compressed umbilical cord during his birth, she previously told "Good Morning America." Doctors said McCoy suffered severe brain damage and was unlikely to recover and McCoy was taken off life support.

In her post introducing her newborn son Vaughn, Bosworth wrote, "The day McCoy was born, I started writing a story. Our story. I don’t typically like to spoil the ending, but in this case the ending is a new beginning."

"It’s not lost on us that if we hadn’t lost Mack, we’d never know Vaughn," she wrote. "And yet, here he is, an unexpected serendipity. A little hope." She also mentioned that his name means "small/little" and "hope."

Kara and Kyle Bosworth, who are also parents to a 5-year-old daughter Decker, did not announce they were expecting their third child until after he was born.

In a post featuring photos of the couple with their daughter, Bosworth wrote about their decision to keep the pregnancy private, describing the personal time as "a private struggle, and a private joy."

"Pregnancy after loss is no walk in the park," she wrote. "Decker, Kyle and I each carried our own worries and we worked through it with the help of a loving (and very very small) village."

"We dared to be happy for this pregnancy and this little blessing," she added. "It was really hard, but we were really brave." She also shared that her husband's first words after she gave birth to Vaughn were, "We did it, baby, we did it."

She said she would always remember the moment because of "how proud" and "relieved" her husband looked.

"I didn’t realize that he must have been holding his breath for 8 months and finally felt like he could exhale," she added. "That’s what this little boy is to us... our exhale."

Bosworth has been open about processing her grief since McCoy's death in 2020. In one post, she said her doula continually encouraged her "to just do the next thing" in order to keep moving forward.

Her "next thing" turned out to be the gift of her son, Vaughn.

"I’m so glad the “next thing” was you, Vaughn Mack," she wrote in an emotional post. "You’re not the next best thing; you’re the best next thing. You’re not a replacement; you’re an extension."
