Prince's estate hosting 'Purple Rain' online watch party for COVID-19 relief

Prince's estate is hosting a three-day livestream event on Thursday which includes a screening of "Prince and the Revolution: Live," a concert film capturing a March 1985 performance at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, New York.

The show took place during Prince's Purple Rain Tour, and was the first live concert footage the iconic entertainer officially released for television broadcast and on home video.

The streaming event which will be viewable on Prince's YouTube channel, kicks off at 5 p.m. ET Thursday with a pre-show Q&A session featuring Revolution drummer Bobby Z. The watch party for "Prince and the Revolution: Live" begins at 6 p.m. ET on YouTube until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday.

The event also celebrates the release of "Prince and the Revolution: Live" on Friday via streaming services. During the watch party, viewers can donate to the World Health Organization's COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund. For every dollar donated by viewers, Google will match $2 up to $5 million.

The March 1985 concert in Syracuse featured performances from the "Purple Rain" album including "Let's Go Crazy," "When Doves Cry," "I Would Die 4 U" and "Purple Rain," and other Prince favorites; "1999" and "Little Red Corvette."

"Prince and the Revolution: Live" was released in 1985 on VHS, laser disc and on DVD in the 2017 deluxe reissue of "Purple Rain."

Prince, born Prince Rogers Nelson, died of an accidental fentanyl overdose in his Paisley Park estate April 21, 2016 at 57.
