Lily Collins, Ashley Park break down Emily and Mindy's rift in 'Emily in Paris' season 5

WATCH: Lily Collins talks 'Emily in Paris' season 5

Spoiler alert: If you haven't seen "Emily in Paris" season 5 yet, look away now.

The new season of "Emily in Paris" is putting Emily and Mindy's friendship to the test.

In season five of the hit Netflix show, Emily and Mindy, portrayed by Lily Collins and Ashley Park, respectively, face a new challenge in their friendship when Emily finds out about Mindy's unexpected romance with Alfie (Lucien Laviscount), Emily's ex-boyfriend from season 3.

Park and Collins told "Good Morning America" in an interview that feuding on camera was "odd."

"I've never talked to her that way," Park said about Collins. "It really felt like we were stepping into different shoes and a different rhythm and mindset for the first time."

Collins added that each time the cameras stopped rolling during the more dramatic scenes with Park, they had to reassure each other.

"We're like, 'I love you, don't worry,'" she said.

Leading up to season five, Emily and Mindy's relationship had been unshakeable. In the show, the two friends first met in season one when Emily moved to Paris.

Park said Emily and Mindy's falling out reflects the reality of what friendship is like in real life.

"I think that with anything in life, until you step away from it or you're pulled apart from it, that's when you can really know that you miss it and you need that in your life," Park said. "And so I think that's ultimately what happens with them."

She went on and said, "They have been each other's safe place and home for so long and what I love about this friendship so much, and we see that a lot this season, is they both really enable each other to go individually develop and flourish individually."

Park added that because of the foundation that Emily and Mindy have built their friendship on, "cracks in anything are gonna make something stronger."

Season five of the hit Netflix show picks up after last season, when Emily relocates to Rome after her job at Agence Grateau secures an Italian espresso client and a contract with a family-owned quiet luxury fashion house.

Collins teases that Rome doesn't turn out as planned, but says that it is a chapter for Emily that contributes to who she is becoming in her life and career.

"I think that was a real turning point for her and her confidence," she said. "Things will happen and you may not expect them to go the way they do, but ultimately you can pivot and you can put your energy into something else."

She added, "I think it gave her this kind of perseverance."

Also starring in the series this season are Lucas Bravo, Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, Eugenio Franceschini, Paul Forman, Bruno Gouery, Samuel Arnold, Bryan Greenberg, Thalia Besson, William Abadie and Arnaud Binard.

All 10 episodes of "Emily in Paris" season 5 are out now.
