Kate Middleton joined by Prince William and kids at annual Christmas carol service

WATCH: Princess Kate arrives for annual Christmas carol service at Westminster Abbey

Kate, the Princess of Wales, led her family on Friday at what has become a cherished royal family tradition, the princess's annual Christmas carol service.

Kate was joined by Prince William and their three children, Princes George and Louis and Princess Charlotte, at the service at Westminster Abbey.

Kate looked festive in a long green coat for the service, while Charlotte wore a navy blue dress that matched her father's and brothers' blue suits.

Kate hosted her first Christmas carol service over five years ago as a way to honor volunteers across the United Kingdom and bring people together during the holiday season.

Each year, the service, "Royal Carols: Together at Christmas," is held early in December and then broadcast on TV in the U.K. on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

As they have gotten older, George, now 12, Charlotte, 10, and Louis, 7, have joined their parents for the service, which is often also attended by other members of the royal family and members of Kate's family.

At this year's service, the royals were joined by acting and music stars including Kate Winslet and Eugene Levy.

In 2021, Kate surprised royal-watchers by showing off her piano skills at that year's Christmas carol service. She joined Tom Walker for a performance of "For Those Who Can't Be Here."

According to Kensington Palace, this year's service celebrates "individuals from across the U.K. who may have dedicated or volunteered their time to be present with others, led initiatives that bring people in their community together, or offered a helping hand to those around them."

In addition to the 1,600 people attending the service at Westminster Abbey, thousands more will take part this year by attending one of the 15 "Together at Christmas" community carol services taking place across the U.K., according to the palace.
