Justin Bieber's intimate docu-series took a dark turn on Monday when the "Sorry" singer opened up about his "scary" drug addiction.

In the fifth episode -- "The Dark Season" -- of the YouTube Premium series, "Justin Bieber: Seasons," Bieber candidly detailed his struggle with addiction and said that he started experimenting with drugs when he was 13.

After becoming "dependent" on marijuana, he soon found himself "sipping lean, popping pills, doing Molly, 'shrooms, everything," throughout his teens.

As for why he did it, the "Yummy" artist revealed that it was an "escape." Growing up in front of cameras wasn't always easy, which enabled his experimental phase to spiral out of control because he "had a lot of money and a lot of things," he said in the episode.

Beiber reflected on why he became hooked on drugs. He said that he didn't grow up in a secure household, so he began "valuing the wrong things in this business" in an endless pursuit to find happiness. Subsequently, his addiction reached the point where he would start his day "popping pills and smoking a blunt."

"My security would come into my room at night to check my pulse. People don't know how serious it got. It was legit crazy, scary," he said in the episode.

It was only until the singer felt "like dying" did he seek help.

Now, Bierber is clean and treating his mental health issues with anti-depressants. He also uses an oxygen chamber that he can set up anywhere, at home or even the studio, for hyperbaric oxygen therapy.

"Being the best me is gonna help me be the best husband, the best father, the best friend that I can possibly be," he said. "I can't do it if I'm not healthy. I haven't been healthy for a long time."
