Katie Gaudreau, the sister of late professional hockey player Johnny Gaudreau, has announced she's expecting her first child with her husband, Devin Joyce.
In a video posted to Instagram, she held baby sneakers and a sonogram photo while they wore "mom" and "dad" hats.
Johnny Gaudreau, a 31-year-old Columbus Blue Jackets star known as "Johnny Hockey," died on Aug. 29, 2024, alongside his brother, Matthew Gaudreau, 29, a former pro hockey player.
The brothers were riding bikes in New Jersey on the eve of Katie Gaudreau's wedding when they were struck by a driver suspected of being under the influence of alcohol, according to police. The suspected driver was arrested and has pleaded not guilty to charges of aggravated manslaughter, vehicular homicide, evidence tampering and leaving the scene of an accident. He's not yet gone to trial.
Katie Gaudreau postponed her wedding for about one year after the accident, the couple going on to tie the knot in July 2025.
Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau both left behind wives, Meredith and Madeline Gaudreau. Katie Gaudreau's social media posts show her role as an active aunt to her brothers' children: 3-year-old Noa, 2-year-old Johnny Jr., and babies Carter and Tripp, who were both born after their fathers' deaths.
Katie Gaudreau's pregnancy announcement comes just days after the U.S. men's hockey team celebrated Johnny Gaudreau and his children at their gold medal-winning game at the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics.
