Hilaria Baldwin says Alec Baldwin encouraged her to join 'Dancing with the Stars'

WATCH: Get to know the 'Dancing with the Stars' season 34 cast

Hilaria Baldwin says her husband, actor Alec Baldwin, was key in convincing her to take on the challenge of competing on "Dancing with the Stars."

"Alec has been trying to have me do this for a very long time," Hilaria Baldwin said Wednesday on "Good Morning America," where she was announced as one of the celebrity cast members of season 34 of "Dancing with the Stars," which premieres Tuesday, Sept. 16, on ABC and Disney+.

The yoga instructor and author explained that an injury and caring for the couple's combined eight children prevented her from taking on the challenge in years prior.

"I've broken my hip. I have a thousand children," Hilaria Baldwin said with a laugh. "So, it was not like something I was really thinking was on my menu of things to do."

Hilaria and Alec Baldwin, who wed in 2012, share seven children, ages 2 to 12.

Alec Baldwin is also the father of an older daughter, Ireland Baldwin, whom he shares with ex-wife Kim Basinger.

On "GMA," Hilaria Baldwin joked that as she begins the intensive training it takes to compete on "DWTS," she'll leave the parenting to her husband.

"I'll just leave him with the kids for the next few months and we'll be doing all sorts of dancing," she said, laughing.

Hilaria Baldwin's pro partner on this season of "DWTS" is Gleb Savchenko.

The pair will compete against a celebrity cast that includes Olympic gold medalist Jordan Chiles, actors Corey Feldman and Danielle Fishel, social media stars Dylan Efron and Alix Earle, wildlife advocate and conservationist Robert Irwin, Pentatonix star Scott Hoying, comedian Andy Richter, and "The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives" stars Whitney Leavitt and Jen Affleck.

When it comes to the competition on "DWTS," Hilaria Baldwin said she is "up for the challenge."

At home, the mom of seven is known for sharing videos on social media of herself dancing with her husband and kids.

"We dance at home. Not quite like this, but I'm up for the challenge," she said.
