Bebe Rexha opens up about anxiety over award shows, red carpets

Bebe Rexha is opening up about feeling anxious before attending high-profile events like award shows and red carpets.

The "One in a Million" singer, 34, shared an honest and relatable TikTok video of herself talking straight to camera on Monday in which she revealed she was feeling "anxious AF" ahead of the MTV Video Music Awards the next day.

Rexha she said she's "very grateful and blessed" to be invited to events like the VMAs, as well as "to be able to do what I love" as an artist, but noted that sometimes the criticism, which she admitted "comes with the territory," gets to her.

"I am human," she said. "But I wanted just to talk about this because I meet a lot of people and a lot of times they'll be like, 'Oh my god, I love how you're all about body positivity and confident,' and let me tell you, right now I'm not feeling so confident."

Rexha said she's "anxious and stressed" about the VMAs red carpet -- specifically "people talking about my weight" -- because she she's "not really loving myself right now."

"I'm not really feeling like the bad b---- that I usually am," she continued. "I guess everybody has these days and nobody ever feels perfect, and that's why I wanted to make this video."

The pop star said she has an outfit picked out and wants to attend the VMAs to celebrate not just her nomination but her friends' nominations, but she doesn't know if she'll attend because "anxiety gets the best of me."

Rexha is up for best collaboration for her song "I'm Good (Blue)" with David Guetta at the 2023 MTV VMAs, taking place Tuesday.
