During Sunday night’s Academy Awards ceremony, Vogue global editorial director Anna Wintour joined Oscar winner Anne Hathaway on stage to present the awards for best costume design and best hair and makeup.
But before announcing the nominees, the pair shared a brief exchange that seemed to wink at Hathaway’s iconic role in the 2006 film "The Devil Wears Prada."
“Anna, just curious, what do you think of my dress tonight?” Hathaway asked as the two stood at the podium.
Without missing a beat, Wintour moved straight past the question and began introducing the nominees, a response that drew laughs from the audience and echoed the famously blunt demeanor associated with the fictional fashion editor Miranda Priestly.
And if the reference wasn’t obvious enough, Wintour appeared to double down on it moments later.
As the presenters wrapped up their segment, she turned to Hathaway and said, “Thank you, Emily,” referencing Hathaway’s character in the film
The pair also brought serious style to the stage.
According to Vogue, Wintour wore a Dior ensemble for the occasion, while Hathaway appeared in a Valentino gown, a look widely seen as a tribute to the late designer, with whom she was close.
