"Alice in Wonderland" is getting a delicious twist with the upcoming Disney Junior animated series, "Alice's Wonderland Bakery."
The show -- which has begun production and is set to debut in 2022 -- centers on Alice, the great-granddaughter of the beloved character of the same name created by English author Lewis Carroll in 1865 and made famous by Disney on the big screen in 1951 and again in the 2010s with a live-action version.
Each episode will feature two 11-minute stories about Alice, a baker at Wonderland Bakery, and her adventures with her friends -- Fergie, a white rabbit; Hattie, her madcap friend; and Rosa, the Princess of Hearts. The show is geared to kids ages 2 to 7 and their families.
"The magic and mischief of 'Alice in Wonderland' has been treasured by millions for over a century, and we are delighted to introduce this version of a young Alice and her charming friends to a whole new generation," Joe D'Ambrosia, senior vice president of original programming and general manager of Disney Junior, said in a press release.
"Inspired by the sense of connection that food brings about -- and recipes filled with enchantment and heart -- the series will showcase whimsical stories with relatable themes for our Disney Junior audience," D'Ambrosia added.
The press release also noted that the show will "celebrate the culture and creativity of food, highlight self-expression and impart age-appropriate social and emotional lessons about friendship, collaboration and community."
Disney is the parent company of ABC News and "Good Morning America."
