2025 Tony Award nominations announced: George Clooney, Sadie Sink and more get nods

The 2025 Tony Award nominations have been officially announced.

The nominations for the annual Broadway awards show were announced Thursday by previous winners Sarah Paulson and Wendell Pierce.

The nominations recognized several super stars who took the stage this year from George Clooney to Sadie Sink and beyond.

Clooney picked up a nomination for best performance by an actor in a leading role in a play for "Good Night, and Good Luck," and Sink was nominated for best performance by an actress in a leading role in a play for "John Proctor is the Villain."

Other stars who earned nominations include Cole Escola for "Oh, Mary!" (best performance by an actor in a leading role in a play), Mia Farrow for "The Roommate" (best performance by an actress in a leading role in a play), Sarah Snook for "The Picture of Dorian Gray" (best performance by an actress in a leading role in a play), Audra McDonald for "Gypsy" (best performance by an actress in a leading role in a musical), Jonathan Groff for "Just in Time" (best performance by an actor in a leading role in a musical), Nicole Scherzinger for "Sunset Blvd." (best performance by an actress in a leading role in a musical) and more.

The productions "Buena Vista Social Club," "Death Becomes Her" and "Maybe Happy Ending" lead with 10 nominations each, followed by "Dead Outlaw," "John Proctor is the Villain, "Sunset Blvd." and "The Hills of California" with seven each.

There were also several big names passed over in this year's nomination round.

Neither Denzel Washington nor Jake Gyllenhaal received nods for their roles in "Othello." Robert Downey Jr. was left off the list for his role in "McNeal," and neither Kieran Culkin nor Bill Burr were recognized for their Broadway revival of "Glengarry Glen Ross" though Bob Odenkirk did score a coveted nomination for his role as Shelley Levene.

Tony-winning actress Idina Menzel was also left off the list for her role in "Redwood," and Nick Jonas and Adrienne Warren were passed over for their performances in "The Last Five Years."

The Tonys will be hosted by Cynthia Erivo and will air on CBS and stream on Paramount+ on Sunday, June 8, 2025, at 8 p.m. ET.

Last year, "The Outsiders" and "Stereophonic" took home the show's top honors, while Jeremy Strong, Sarah Paulson, Jonathan Groff and Maleah Joi Moon brought home top acting honors.
